Caerphilly’s Private Landlord Forum, which provides free advice and information to those in the property rental business, has celebrated its third anniversary.
To mark it’s third anniversary, a special event was held at the Oasis Christian Centre in Cefn Fforest recently, where experts from the property world came together to provide valuable advice to local landlords and agents.
Legal advisors, energy saving companies, mortgage advisors, insurance and property management advisors came along to the event to offer landlords some free advice and information.
Representatives from the Council’s Housing Benefits team, the Welsh Assembly Government’s Rent’s Service and the Smart Money Credit Union were also present with up-to-date information on the effects of the recent announcements to the housing benefit system.
Forum Chair, and local landlord Greg Rowlands officially opened the event, and also offered a warm welcome to Cllr Lyn Ackerman, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Housing Services.
She said, “I was delighted to be invited along to help celebrate the Caerphilly Private Landlord Forum’s third anniversary – and the Forum is excellent in that it provides useful information and assistance to local private landlords, to help assist them in what can be an extremely daunting job”.
She continued, “Successful private landlords need a wide range of skills, ranging from an understanding of the legal obligations through to carrying out repairs, and the Private Landlord Forum creates a great platform for encouraging well-informed landlords and agents in our area”.
Many of those who regularly attend the Private Landlord Forum meetings are members of the National Landlords Association, and are accredited through the Landlord Accreditation Wales (LAW) Scheme, which demonstrates an increasing willingness of local landlords to be recognised as members of a professional body.
The next Private Landlord Forum meeting will be held on 24th January 2011 at Penallta House, starting at 6:15pm. For further information, please call Sue Cousins on 01495 235382.
