Millar: Lack of warning over Ruthin bed cuts

A local AM has expressed dismay about the lack of warning over plans to axe beds from Ruthin Hospital.

Betsi Cadwaldr Health Board confirmed yesterday that over the winter, 15 beds would be cut from Ruthin Hospital to cope with winter pressures. Darren Millar, Assembly Member for Clwyd West, challenged the First Minister over the lack of consultation over decision in the Welsh Assembly today.

Speaking after Questions to the First Minister, Darren said:

‘This latest development in the Health Board’s plans came without prior warning. Only last week I specifically asked the Health Board about the future of Ruthin Hospital. I was assured its future was safe and received no indication that any changes would be made.

‘This is yet another example of Betsi Cadwaldr Health Board not taking public engagement seriously. They clearly haven’t learnt any lessons from their disgraceful lack of consultation with the on-going health reviews.

‘This is an unacceptable way of keeping key stakeholders and the public informed about important plans.’
