Council Highlights the Importance of Social Care

Cardiff Council has welcomed Welsh Assembly Government support for care services to help older people to live independently in their own homes.

The council works in partnership with a number of agencies to provide care and support to older residents for a wide range of individual needs such as domestic duties, house maintenance, addressing correspondence and arranging social outings.

Executive Member for Health, Social Care and Wellbeing Cllr John Dixon joined the First Minister Carwyn Jones, Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones and Business and Budget Minister Jane Hutt at the home of Cardiff resident Doris Ferdinand, 79, who has received funding for her home to allow her to live an independent life.

Cllr John Dixon said: “Visiting Mrs Ferdinand at her home today, highlights the fact that services such as these are vital in the support and care they offer to older people. We welcome the priority given to protecting the vulnerable in our society by the First Minister and the Welsh Assembly Government, and their confidence in the care Cardiff Council is supplying to vulnerable older people in their own home.”
