American police appeal for help

Police in America are appealing for help in tracing the owner of a gold medallion which was given to a North Wales police officer more than 70 years ago.

Detective Kevin Higgins of the New Orleans Police Department has contacted North Wales Police and asked for their help after the medallion was recently recovered from a pawn shop.

He said: “The item is a gold medallion approximately four cms across and has the inscription ‘Presented to DT Sgt JR Oxley. For a gallant rescue of a drowning person – Kinmel Bay, July 1938′ and has the letters ‘WSC’ on the front.

“It is very well worn and I would presume has extreme sentimental value to the Detective Sergeant and or the family members as an heirloom. Any information to the family whereabouts would be greatly appreciated”

Anyone who recognizes the medallion or who has any information about the family should contact North Wales Police Press Office on 01492 804666.
