Rhondda Cynon Taf has secured a musical coup by welcoming the Russian State Academic Choir, who will perform for audiences in the County Borough as part of their visit to the area with Ferndale’s Cor Meibion Morlais.
The men and women from the Russian choir, considered to be one of the best in the world, will be staying with their colleagues from Ferndale next week.
As well as being treated to a tour of the county borough, a visit to the Penderyn distillery and a trip to the Mayor’s Parlour, the Russian State Academic Choir will also perform with Cor Meibion Morlais in St Anne’s Church, Ynyshir.
Tickets are still available for the event, which is set to be a musical spectacular featuring Russian Christmas and Folk songs.
Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd said: “We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our friends from Russia and are proud and privileged to be able to host such a renowned choir.
“I know this will be a wonderful evening in Ynyshir and I look forward to welcoming people to St Anne’s Church for this unique opportunity.”
John Asquith, Russian-speaking conductor of the Morlais Choir, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to hear a world-class choir. They will be singing a programme of Russian music and the Morlais will add their own brand of performing, with some Welsh favourites, to make this truly a night to remember.”
