Police enquiries are continuing into the death of an eleven month child in Abergavenny.
Officers were called to a flat in St Davids Road, Abergavenny at approximately 5.30am on Saturday 20th November. Officers carried out CPR on the girl however paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Initial results from the post mortem have established that the child died from multiple stab wounds.
A 22 year old woman, from the Abergavenny area, who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been detained under the provisions of the mental health act where she is undergoing medical assessment.
Detective Chief Inspector Jon Williams, who is leading the investigation, said;
“I have a team of approximately 25 detectives and staff working on this case.
Enquiries are continuing in the area and forensic examiners remain at the scene.This is an extremely distressing incident. I would reiterate that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death at this time and there is no risk to the wider community. However I would urge anyone with any information about this incident to contact police –it could be crucial in assisting us with this investigation.”
