Jail for Bail

Some well known faces from Carmarthenshire will be locked up on Wednesday to help sufferers of domestic abuse.

A mobile cell will be set up in Nott Square, Carmarthen, and some high profile people will be arrested by police and held captive until they raise their bail money using their mobile phone.

The ‘Jail for Bail’ event has been organised by the Carmarthenshire Domestic Abuse Forum to mark White Ribbon Week.

All the money raised will be used to help sufferers of domestic violence.

It is being supported by the Community Safety Partnership which is working with partner organisations to help and support victims of domestic violence in Carmarthenshire.

The White Ribbon campaign asks people and organisations to make a pledge to end violence towards women.

A ‘Women from History’ walkabout is also being held on Friday. Women dressed in costumes to represent famous females from history or positive female role models will be out distributing white ribbons and shaking their tins to raise much-needed money.

Executive board member for community safety Councillor Pam Palmer said:

“Please show your support to this worthy cause, unfortunately women are more likely to be at risk in the home than outside of it. All the money raised this week will be used by the forum to help and support those suffering from domestic violence.”
