This coming Thursday (25 November), Santa will arrive in the RNLI inshore lifeboat for the official switch on of the Christmas lights in Mumbles.
At 6pm, Newton Road will be closed off to traffic for live music, late shopping and a selection of Christmas treats for the kids. There will be a cash collection on the night and children will have the chance to meet Santa in his grotto. All money raised will go to the RNLI’s Mumbles Tamar lifeboat appeal and 96.4 FM The Waves Cash for Kids appeal.
‘We’ll have live music from Mal Pope and classic Christmas songs from Jimi Webb,’ says Badger from The Wave, who will be hosting the event. ‘Ex Swansea City player Lee Trundle will be there too to switch on the Christmas lights at 7pm, and there’s the chance get your copy of Lee’s new book signed on the night. There will also be the chance to meet up with the volunteer lifeboat crew.’
The RNLI has set a £150,000 fundraising target over three years towards a new £2.7m Tamar class lifeboat for Mumbles. The Tamar lifeboats are the most advanced vessels operated by the RNLI, providing all-weather rescue capabilities and will replace the current Tyne class rescue boat that currently serves Mumbles. The fund reached the halfway point in July thanks to the fundraising efforts of the public.
