It’s like a scene from the Antarctic at Swansea’s Waterfront Winterland with hundreds of children learning to ice-skate by using model penguin stabilisers.
Swansea Council’s Special Events Team came up with the idea for the attraction to add to the winter theme.
Waterfront Winterland is open until January 9 and includes the main Admiral ice rink, Rocky’s rink for children, the 44-metre high Miles Hire giant wheel and a family funfair with rides such as the Snow Storm, a traditional carousel and the Mad Mouse- a mini rollercoaster adventure for young children.
The attraction is located in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum.
Visitors can also pop into Santa’s Grotto and enjoy live music and festive food.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Rocky’s rink helps our younger visitors build confidence when on the ice rink and we thought the penguin stabilisers would be a quirky addition to lend a hand.
“Waterfront Winterland has been a tremendous addition to Christmas in Swansea since its introduction. It helps boost festive spirits and offers entertainment for the whole family.”
The penguin family of ice skating stabilisers has arrived with the help of local businesses: Turbo from Admiral Group, Eric from Specsavers, Florri from Swansea Council’s Road Safety Team and Mac and Donald from McDonalds.
