Porth Tree of Memory service

Hundreds of people gathered at Porth Square to enjoy Rhondda Cynon Taf’s first free festive town centre event of 2010 (Weds, November 24).

Children from local school choirs joined people of all ages to sing carols around the Christmas tree for the annual Tree of Memory Service.

Pupils from Porth Juniors and YGG Llwyncelyn made decorations to go on the tree in the Square. Local youngsters who visited on the night could take part in craft workshops, making decorations to take home, and enjoyed visits to Santa’s grotto and a funfair. There was also street entertainment for all at Porth Square.

Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Council Business, said: “It is wonderful to see so many people of all ages turn out to enjoy the festivities.

“The Tree of Memory Service was a fitting way to remember family members and friends who cannot be with us this Christmas.”
