Team Gwynedd net prize

Young Gwynedd athletes have made a splash in a regional water sports competition, winning the top prize.

Water polo players in the eight to 11-year old category representing the county won the North Wales championship, held at Llandudno on Saturday, 27 November.

The team were undefeated against teams representing Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.

It was a good day all round for Gwynedd at the tournament as the 12-16 year-old team also came away with the bronze award for coming third in their category.

Councillor Roy Owen, Gwynedd Council’s portfolio leader with responsibility for sports, said: “Well done to all the children who took part in this competition and represented Gwynedd so well, it is clear that their hard work and perseverance has paid off. Congratulations also to their coaches and everyone who has helped them along the way.

“I am delighted that young people living in the county are given the opportunity to try different activities, and that so many shine in their chosen sports.”

Many of the Gwynedd team members train at Bangor Swimming Pool on Friday evenings between 6-6.45pm, under the watchful eye of coach Jacob Roberts.

There are many fun sports and activities taking place for people of all ages and abilities at all of Gwynedd Council’s leisure centres. For more information about what is available, contact your local centre, details are on the website www.gwynedd.gov.uk/leisure
