Cardiff Council is asking people across the city for their views on the future of Central Bus Station.
The public consultation runs until February 14, 2011 and will help the Council understand the needs of the city and identify the best option to improve the current bus station.
Three options are being put forward following discussions with a number of transport operators, the Council’s Sustainable Travel City Board, Traveline Cymru, and Cardiff Council’s Access Focus Group, which represents the interest of people with a range of disabilities.
The three options are:
- To leave the existing bus station as it is.
- To provide a new passenger waiting area at the existing bus station.
- To provide a redesigned bus station with improved accessibility and a new passenger waiting area.
Members of the public can submit their comments about the proposals by completing an online survey at http://surveys.cardiff.gov.uk/busstation/ or http://surveys.cardiff.gov.uk/gorsaffysus/
Executive Member for Traffic and Transportation, Cllr Delme Bowen said: “Our aim is to encourage more people to use buses in Cardiff to help reduce congestion and pollution throughout the city. We recognise the importance of the continued provision of an effective bus/rail interchange, and related facilities for long distance coach services to be retained close to Cardiff Central Railway Station so that they are integrated effectively with local, regional and national rail services.“
