Commenting on today’s disruption to the road network, Shadow Minister for Transport Darren Millar AM said:
“The Welsh Assembly Government has failed yet again to ensure that all of our main routes are open.
“The snow and ice has not taken us by surprise and has been forecast since the start of the week. Welsh motorists should not have to put up with this level of disruption.
“We have been calling for appropriate winter planning for many months and it is once again clear that those calls have gone unheeded.
“The Welsh Government has failed to learn the lessons of last winter when we called for statutory guidance on salt stocks to be issued to Welsh councils.
“It now needs to act quickly and work more effectively with councils to get more of our main routes moving. Adequate access needs to be ensured for emergency vehicles to get to accidents and hospitals, with a greater deployment of snow ploughs to compliment the use of rock salt across the country.”
