Fancy that… you’d be surprised what goes on in your library

TV weatherman Derek Brockway will be in Bangor Library on Saturday 22nd January 10am – 1pm, as part of ‘Fancy that’ – the Welsh libraries festival.

This is your opportunity to ask Derek any question you wish – from the weather, to walking or maybe you just want to know what his favourite hobby is! This free question and answer session starts at 10.45am. Derek will also be reading his very own children’s book in English and Welsh story-time sessions starting at 10.15am (English) and 11.45am (Welsh).

Derek commented: “I’ve been set a challenge to try something new at different libraries across Wales. At Bangor I’ll be learning to rap with Ed Holden – depending how I get on I might try it out on my weather forecast next week! It just goes to show that libraries offer much more than books and cater for all types of hobbies and interests.”

The fun day will have plenty to keep all the family entertained. Interested in finding out where to start with your family history? John Dilwyn Williams – the schoolmaster from the programme ‘Snowdonia 1890’ will be on hand to point you in the right direction. Alternatively, try making something at one of the craft workshops or even try out a bit of rap with renowned Welsh rapper Ed Holden!

There are lots to keep the younger ones busy with face painting, arts & craft activities and they will even have the chance to meet their favourite cartoon character – the one and only Sali Mali.

Gwynedd Council’s Principal Librarian Hywel James says, “We are delighted to be part of the Welsh Libraries festival. The variety of activities on offer is fantastic and provides a perfect opportunity for the whole family to spend a Saturday morning. I’m sure many of our current users will enjoy the day and we look forward to welcoming new faces to the library.”

‘Fancy that’ encourages all generations of the family to try something new at the library. From now until the end of January there are lots of events for all the family happening in libraries across Wales.
