Penarth lifeboat crew and shore team dug deep into their pockets at their annual Christmas dinner last month, and raised £250 for another local charity.
Every year the RNLI volunteers choose a charity to raise funds for, and this year it was the turn of the Elodie Wilton appeal. Three year old Elodie has cerebral palsy and last year her parents, Rhys and Cath, from Dinas Powys launched a hugely successful fundraising campaign to enable her to travel to America for a pioneering operation to help towards her mobility. Now they are busy raising funds to set up a specialist unit at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where other cerebral palsy similar operations can benefit from similar treatment.
“The RNLI is entirely funded by charitable donations, so we know only too well how vital it is to receive financial support to keep us going” said lifeboat crew member, Mark Bow.
“Thanks to the generous donations of raffle prizes from local businesses we were able to raise £250 at our Christmas party, and we are delighted to contribute towards Elodie’s appeal”, he added.
Elodie and her parents visited Penarth lifeboat station just before Christmas, to receive a cheque from the crew.
