The WRU has been confirmed as one of the sponsors for the 2011 Leading Wales Awards, the prestigious pan-Wales awards that celebrates leadership across all levels, in association with Real Radio Wales.
Welsh rugby’s national governing body sponsors the Team Leader award which is open to leaders of groups or teams in any sector – public, private, voluntary or social enterprise.
The WRU joins the line up of other sponsors that include Public Service Management Wales (PSMW), Cardiff Business School and the Church in Wales supporting eight categories designed to celebrate individual leadership across all walks of life.
WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis said “We see leadership qualities at every level of rugby all over Wales, from the running of our grassroots clubs right through to the world class leadership skills shown within our National Management Team. We are thrilled to be supporting the Team Leader award to recognise those skills that are vital to the Welsh economy and society in general.”
Barbara Chidgey, spokesperson for the Leading Wales Awards added; “We are delighted that the WRU has agreed to get involved this year. Sport is such a big part of Wales’ identity where leadership is a quality that is really nurtured and recognised. It’s an ideal fit and really gives us another platform from which we can reach out to more people.”
Last year the awards reached into every geographical area in Wales attracting nominations from all around Wales in the different categories. As of 4th January this year Real Radio Wales is Wales’s first pan-Wales commercial radio station hence why the awards moved forward from their usual autumnal nomination time to ensure that they had pan Wales radio coverage from Real Radio.
The Awards, now in their 7th Year, will culminate in the celebratory lunch and Ceremony which will take place at the Hilton, Cardiff on Thursday 19th May 2011.
The nomination period will be officially opened at launch events taking place in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on 10th January 2011 and at Portmeirion on 12th January and will stay open until 4th March 2011. For more information, please visit www.leadingwalesawards.com
