Torfaen is encouraging local people to be inspired by the beauty and history of local crafts, by participating in a craft session emulating the style of Pontypool’s renowned ‘Japan ware’.
Local artists will be delivering a session creating Japan ware themed bookmarks aimed at the family market so that young and older people can learn together about local heritage while enjoying the creative arts.
The session will take place in Pontypool Market on Saturday 15th January from 11am until 1pm and visitors are welcome to drop along and have a go at any time between these hours.
Today examples of Pontypool Japan ware are very few and far between and always see excellent prices paid for them when they rarely show up in auction rooms. If you would like to see examples of this extraordinary work you can do so at Pontypool Museum. It is well worth a visit to see a part of the history of Pontypool.
This event forms part of the ‘Try Something Different in Torfaen’ programme of events, which complements the Valleys Heart and Soul Campaign and is supported by the Valleys Regional Park Programme with aid from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government.
