Speaking during First Minister’s Questions, the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives has demanded more is done to encourage Welsh firms to apply for Olympics contracts.
Only 11 supplying contracts have been won by Welsh firms, out of a total of 1,433.
Nick Bourne AM said: “The First Minister calls these figures disappointing. At a time when we need to encourage and support Welsh business to flourish and prosper, these figures are not just disappointing, they are unacceptable.
“The Federation of Small Businesses has previously said there has not been enough promotion. Despite denying this today, the First Minister has admitted that Olympics supply contracts were not even discussed at the last meeting of the Economic Renewal Council.
“It’s clearly not a problem of resources. In the West Midlands, an average of £55 was invested per head. That’s almost half of the £107 per head that WAG has invested, yet that region has secured 58 contracts.
“Labour-Plaid’s laziness needs to end. We must target this investment much more effectively and we need to act as quickly as possible.”
