Ysgol Rhosnesni’s catering team are simply the best

A Wrexham school has been recognised at a national awards ceremony for its drive to improve school meals. The catering team at Ysgol Rhosnesni were named top of their field in two categories at the Blakemore Food Service National Catering Awards.

At a ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Coventry, the team were named the Public Sector Catering Team of the Year and were also awarded the overall title for Best in the Public Sector.

The catering team were recognised for their excellent work during the past two years in testing and implementing the food and nutrition guidelines proposed by Welsh Assembly’s ‘Appetite for Life’ Action Plan.

Moira Tennant, Cook in Charge at Ysgol Rhosnesni, and her dedicated team have helped drive forward new initiatives, from reducing non compliant menu lines to introducing healthy meal deals.

The team have also introduced a special pre-order system, for hot and cold menu items, where pupils can fast track the queues by collecting their meal at special areas. They also formed strong links with pupil groups to help improve the dining room environment.
