Two crews from Borth Rowing Club are entering the ‘Ocean to City’ rowing race on 4 June 2011, in Cork, Republic of Ireland, with the aim of raising money for the RNLI.
Borth Rowing Club are entering two teams to participate in the annual Ocean to City open sea rowing race in Cork, Republic of Ireland. The race is 15 nautical miles, which will take over two-and-a-half hours of hard rowing.
In 2010, Borth Rowing Club raised over £800 for MIND, the mental health charity. This year they have chosen to support the RNLI, which is the charity that saves lives at sea, and maintains an inshore lifeboat station in Borth.
Several members of Borth Rowing Club are also volunteer lifeboat crew.
Martyn Davies, the Captain of Borth Rowing Club and a volunteer lifeboat crew member, said:
‘One of the Rowing Club ladies, Pip Nicholas, has recently joined the Borth lifeboat crew. The Rowing Club are hoping to raise £805 to cover the cost of her RNLI survival clothing, lifejacket and helmet.’
Pip added:
‘The RNLI plays an invaluable role in coastal communities, such as Borth, and it’s fantastic that Borth Rowing Club has chosen to support the RNLI and my development as a new crew member in this way. Those of us going to Ireland for the race are really looking forward to a challenging row.’
