The First Minister has been challenged over plans to axe beds from Glan Clwyd hospital in North Wales.
Betsi Cadwaldr University Health Board has announced a revamp of Glan Clwyd hospital which will result in a reduction in the number of beds at the hospital.
Speaking after questions to the First Minister this week, Assembly Member for Clwyd West Darren Millar said:
“I challenged the First Minister over his plans to cut the NHS budget. I also called on him to guarantee the future of NHS and quality of services in North Wales.
“As a result of the £1billion of cuts to the NHS budget by the Labour and Plaid Government, my constituents are already threatened with the downgrading of key local NHS services.
“Now we understand that beds will be axed from Glan Clwyd as part of a refurbishment programme – it’s totally unacceptable.
“This number of hospital beds in North Wales has fallen significantly over the past few years. Even with advances in health services which allow people to be treated at home, we will still face pressure for extra capacity in hospital services in Conwy and Denbighshire in the future due to age profile in the area.”
