Cardiff Council’s Bereavement Services has won a top award for the service it provides to the bereaved.
The Gold Standard prize was awarded by the Charter for the Bereaved for the assessment of burial and cremation.
Each year Bereavement Services undertakes a Best Value Assessment run by the Institute of Crematorium and Cemetery Managers (ICCM) based on guidelines from the Charter for the Bereaved.
The ICCM launched the Charter for the Bereaved in 1994 with the objective to provide a number of charter rights that the bereaved should expect to receive as a minimum standard of service.
Since its establishment, the charter has evolved and is now used as the only national benchmark for crematoria and cemeteries throughout the UK.
The scheme measures the service by using an evaluation process to assess all 33 rights associated with funerals.
It also sets cemeteries and crematoria objectives for future developments and improvements.
The Gold Standard Award is recognition of the service provided by Cardiff Council Bereavement Services for the standard of service they provide to the bereaved.
Bereaved families are offered a number of options throughout its sites including cremation, traditional graves, infant graves, lawn burial graves, environmentally friendly woodland burials and cremated remains burials as well as numerous other memorial options.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “Cardiff Council is committed to providing a high level of service to the bereaved and the Gold Standard award recognises this.
“Members of staff work hard to ensure that each individual case is treated with competence and in line with guidelines provided by the Charter for the Bereaved, and they ensure that the bereaved received first class customer care at what can be a sensitive and difficult time”.
