Calling all Rugby League fans

A group of Rugby League enthusiasts are looking to put together a new Junior Rugby League team in Wrexham and need your help.

Rugby League has increased in popularity in the Wrexham area since the Crusaders relocated to the famous Racecourse ground. Rugby League is now Wales’ fastest growing sport and there has been an increased demand for people looking to get into the sport following Crusaders arrival in north Wales.

The new club are looking for anyone interested to come along the meet and greet session at the Park Sports Association, Gwersyllt at 7.00pm on Thursday 3rd February. Light refreshments will be provided.

The initial target group will be nine and ten year olds for the under 11’s team and the meeting is open to anyone who has an interest in Rugby League and would like to help in the setting up of the new club.

The team already have the backing of the Crusaders. Matt Pritchard, Community Development Manager at the club said: “The Club and I are keen to support a youth team in the Wrexham area. Developing budding rugby stars from an early age is crucial and a junior team provides an excellent platform for young people to make headway into the sport’.

The group are working closely with Wrexham County Borough Council’s Sports Development team to ensure that the new team are supported and ready to put Wrexham on the Junior Rugby League map.

“Crusaders have been a welcome addition to the Wrexham Racecourse ground. I thoroughly support Wrexham having its own junior rugby league team and hope that people come forward to volunteer to support rugby league at a grassroots level’.
