WRU President Dennis Gethin has been getting better connected – by studying a computer course at Pontypridd Library.
Mr Gethin, who is in his mid 60s, is learning how to use a computer for the first time through the BBC’s ‘First Click’ campaign, which aims to encourage people who do not use the internet to understand and enjoy its benefits.
He has been having computer lessons over the past two months with tutor Jackie Philpott and reporting on his progress on the Roy Noble show on Radio Wales.
“I was an absolute beginner and this is something I have always wanted to do,” he said.
“I wanted to research my family tree and that has been the incentive. I was aware of what the internet offered, but this has been an eye-opener.”
Tutor Jackie said: “He has been a good pupil – he is very enthusiastic!”
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “We are delighted to have been able to host computer lessons for Dennis Gethin at Pontypridd Library.
“All our libraries offer free internet access, so if people would like to spend more time online, they are very welcome to come along and use our library facilities.”
