Commenting on the statement from the Welsh Assembly Government on the future of forests in Wales, Brynle Williams AM, Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs, said:
“Welsh woodlands are a vital part of the beautiful natural environment of Wales and need to be protected in a financially sustainable way.
“By developing partnerships with charitable trusts and private organisations we can expand areas of Wales devoted to forest and woodland, but Ministers must ensure that public access is maintained so people can continue to enjoy our countryside.
“Welsh Conservatives welcome ambitious targets for planting more trees, but we need to hear reassurances from Ministers that these are realistic and achievable and will not negatively impact on Wales’ agricultural land.”
