The way Flintshire County Council collects waste will be changing over the coming months.
The first households will receive the new collection arrangements in late February and the service will then be rolled out to all of Flintshire residents during the summer.
Under the new system, households will receive the following service:
A weekly collection of recyclables in the existing recycling containers
A weekly collection of food waste from sealed caddies which will be delivered to residents soon
A fortnightly collection of general domestic waste (material that cannot be recycled) from the new black wheelie bins which will also be delivered in time for the new collections to commence
Alternating with:
A fortnightly green waste collection service from the existing brown wheelie bin
In order to make the service easier to use all collections will take place on the same day each week.
The intention is to encourage residents to recycle more and waste less allowing Flintshire to achieve the tough recycling targets set by Welsh Assembly Government.
Councillor Nancy Matthews, Executive Member for Waste said:
“This is a phased change-over and residents will get advanced notice of any changes to their refuse collection through their letter boxes.
“By using the various recycling schemes the Council offers, Flintshire residents can help us to meet the challenging targets set by the Welsh Assembly Government to reduce the amount of waste being tipped at landfill sites.
“We all need to work together to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost as much waste as possible to preserve our environment – and to avoid tough financial penalties.”
