Darren Millar pledges to “do his bit” for British Armed Forces

Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West, has pledged to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family.

Darren met with representatives from The Royal British Legion at a recent reception for Assembly Members (AMs), which he hosted at the National Assembly for Wales. The event was held to launch the Legion’s Manifesto for Wales 2011 for the forthcoming Welsh general election.

The manifesto sets out priorities for the next Welsh Assembly Government to improve conditions for the British Armed Forces past and present and their families in Wales. It encourages AMs and candidates for the Welsh general election to pledge to “do their bit” for Service personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependants.

Chris Simpkins, the Legion’s Director General, who spoke at the reception, said: “We’re really grateful to Darren Millar for sponsoring our manifesto launch and being the event’s keynote speaker in his capacity as Chair of the Assembly’s Cross Party Group on the Armed Forces and Cadets in Wales. Our message to every candidate standing at the general election is very simple: ‘It’s time to do your bit’.

“The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties,” he added. “Our manifesto outlines five practical ways the next Welsh Assembly Government can help, and we hope all the parties will give it serious consideration”.

Darren Millar said, “I was delighted to sponsor the launch of the Legion’s Manifesto for Wales 2011 and to speak at their reception for AMs at the National Assembly as Chair of the Assembly’s Cross Party on the Armed Forces and Cadets in Wales. The Legion has an important role to play in highlighting the needs of the whole Armed Forces family. I have pledged to do my bit and would encourage people to do the same by visiting the general election manifesto website – www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk – to find out more.”
