Pop princess Lisa Scott-Lee is extending a special invitation to families to discover the delights of the seaside resort where she was brought up.
Lisa has just been appointed an Honorary Ambassador for the North Wales towns of Rhyl and Prestatyn.
The former Steps star is still passionate about her old stomping ground and, with the half-term holiday looming, she says Rhyl and Prestatyn are perfect places for a family break.
Lisa said: “I was absolutely delighted to be invited to become an official Ambassador for Rhyl and Prestatyn.
“Rhyl is my home town and the area still holds a very special place in my heart.
“I would like to extend an especially warm Welsh welcome to families from the North West and the Midlands to come and experience the delights that Rhyl and the neighbouring resort of Prestatyn have to offer.
“They are both brilliant places to bring children for a day out or for a longer stay. In addition to the brilliant beaches, there are plenty of things to see and do.
“The whole area has a happening feel to it these days because Rhyl and Prestatyn are on the up again and I’m convinced it will be a big hit with families who come to visit.”
“I have very happy memories of growing up in the area and I’m sure that anybody who comes to visit will also have happy memories of their time in the area.”
News that Lisa had agreed to become an Honorary Ambassador for Rhyl and Prestatyn delighted Lucy Grace, the Tourism Marketing Officer with Denbighshire County Council.
She said: “Rhyl and Prestatyn are truly family resorts, with major leisure and recreational facilities.
“The Pavilion Theatre has a year-round programme of varied entertainment and the Sky Tower offers an unbeatable bird’s eye view of the town and coastline.
“At the opposite end of the promenade, Marine Lake with its historic miniature steam train is as popular as ever, and closer to the centre the award-winning Drift Park has given that section of the promenade a real boost.
“Attractions at the Seaquarium are forever being enhanced and the nearby Events Arena is a marvellous venue for open-air functions, having hosted massive events such as the Radio 1 Road show and Rhyl Air Show.
“Prestatyn has always been proud of its reputation as a homely, welcoming resort with its High Street offering a wide range of interesting independent shops.
“These days Prestatyn is really beginning to benefit from its location at the northern end of the 167-mile Offa’s Dyke long-distance footpath. Walkers who set out from Chepstow complete the hike by going down the High Street and finally cooling their feet in the sea at Central Beach.
“For less ambitious walkers too, Prestatyn has much to offer, not only during its annual walking festival. The seafront, hillside and surrounding countryside abounds with trails and paths.
“In the Scala Arts Centre in the High Street, Prestatyn has a complex which is the envy of many much larger towns. Its digital equipment is the finest available, meaning that the Scala is the only North Wales cinema able to screen live performances from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and New York Met.
“Sports enthusiasts are extremely well catered for in the area, with four excellent and yet different golf courses in Prestatyn, Rhyl, Meliden and Rhuddlan.
“There are cycle tracks linking the towns and neighbouring villages, and in the near future Rhyl will soon have North Wales’s first purpose-built cycling track at Glan y Morfa, providing a safe training environment for road and off-road riders.
“The whole area has a happening feel to it these days because Rhyl and Prestatyn are on the up and I’m convinced it will be a big hit with families who come and visit.”
