The 3 March 2011 is a big day for all of us

The 3 March 2011 sees the referendum on the law making powers of the National Assembly for Wales taking place and Counting Officer Colin Everett is reassuring voters in Flintshire that having their say and casting their vote is easy and straightforward.

The Assembly has powers to make laws in 20 subject areas. In each subject area, the Assembly can make laws on some matters, but not on others. On 3 March there will be a referendum that will ask voters whether the Assembly should now be able to make laws on all matters in the 20 subject areas it has powers for.

Every household in Wales has been sent a booklet, explaining what the issues are on which voters will have their say. This was sent by the Electoral Commission, the independent body responsible for the running of the referendum. The booklet is also available online at www.aboutmyvote.com.

Colin Everett, Counting Officer in Flintshire, says:

“Voting on 3 March is not complicated, there is ample information available. Staff in the polling stations are there to help and to answer any questions about how to complete your ballot paper.

“If you have received a polling card then you can take this to your local polling station and hand it to the polling station staff. However, if you’ve misplaced your polling card for any reason, all you have to do is tell the polling station staff your name and address, and make your mark on a ballot paper that you’re given. Then you’ll know that you’ve played your part, and had your say.”
