One of the busiest RNLI lifeboat stations in north Wales has today launched a recruitment drive to help find volunteers to help the RNLI save lives at sea – without getting their feet wet. Rhyl RNLI lifeboat station is keen to recruit some extra pairs of hands to assist behind the scenes.
The station is looking for volunteers to help run the shop alongside the boathouse on Rhyl Promenade. The shop is open daily between 10am and 5pm, 7 days a week, from April to September; and on Sundays in winter. The shop sells a large variety of RNLI souvenirs, together with the charity’s Christmas cards. Training will be given in Point-of-sale credit card machines and cash tills. Just a few hours in the week would ease the burden on the existing sales team. The posts would ideally suit people of pensionable age with spare time on their hands.
Matt Crofts RNLI Deputy Divisional Inspector of Lifeboats for Wales says:
‘Volunteers with the RNLI do not necessarily have to go to sea to save lives. There are a variety of ways people can make sure our lifeboats continue to operate and these roles can in fact be extremely rewarding. We are appealing to anyone in the Rhyl area with some time on their hands to get in touch and spare a few hours to help an extremely worthwhile charity.’
Rhyl RNLI lifeboat was launched 46 times during 2010 and rescued 18 lives at sea. The RNLI is a charity and depend on public support and voluntary donations. Without the RNLI fundraisers hard work and determination, volunteer lifeboat crew would not be able to go out and save lives at sea.
