A budding actor has found himself a special role with North Wales Police.
18-year-old Gruffydd Owen from Anglesey who stars in S4C’s teen soap ‘Rownd a Rownd’ as Gareth ‘Sbecs’ has taken up a role as a Special Constable with the force.
Gruffydd, who is a former pupil of Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in joined AmlwchNorth Wales Police in October 2010 and has been on the beat since December.
“Next year I’ll be studying Law at Cardiff University and I decided to join the Specials as it would give me a flavour as to what a career with the police could offer me,” said Gruffydd. “I absolutely love the role – especially the late shifts.”
“After completing my A levels last year I decided to take a gap year to fund my degree by continuing to work at Rownd a Rownd. I work with Rownd a Rownd on average two days a week, thus giving me plenty of spare time, enabling me to work at least a couple of shifts a week”
Gruffydd, who has been with Rownd a Rownd for the past six years currently works shifts from Llangefni and Holyhead, although he covers other parts of the island.
“I worked on New Years Eve which was a very busy night and I ended up making a couple of arrests. I was meant to finish at 3am but the jobs came in thick and fast and I ended up working until 7:30am, the adrenaline carried me through till the end.”
He added: “I’ve made some great friends and I’m still in contact with those who joined on my intake- we regularly meet for a catch up.”

The Special Constabulary consist of volunteer officers, who give up their time freely to assist with the policing of North Wales Police.
As a Special Constable you will work alongside regular officers, and will be expected to commit to four hours service a week. Being a Special Constable is a great way to give something back to your community, develop new skills or learn what being a police officer is really like. As a Special Constable you will be given training and a uniform, and have all the powers and authority of regular officers.
