A special tree planting event is to take place in Parc y Pentre at 10.45 am on Monday, 21 February.
Mountain Ash trees will be planted in the park to replace five trees that were destroyed by vandals in October 2010.
Cardiff Council Parks department will plant the trees which have been funded by the Rhiwbina Garden Village Residents’ Association.
Members of the association have worked hard over the last few months to raise the £600 needed to replace the trees.
Fundraising has included a bring-and-buy sale in the park which saw local residents donate goods to sell such as plants and cakes and local councillors came together to organise a coffee morning.
Kind and generous donations from local shopkeepers, tree-lovers and people who use the park have also gone a long way to help the fund.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “This tree-planting event is the result of the efforts from true community spirit.
“Members of the Garden Village Association, parents of children who play in the park, dog walkers and those who live and work in the area have all come together to help restore the park to its former glory.
“The vandalism of beautiful trees is a senseless crime and one that Cardiff Council takes very seriously. I am glad that the park is back to how it should be so that it can be enjoyed by everyone”.
Local councilors, members of the Garden Village Residents’ Association, local schoolchildren and local residents are being invited to attend the event.
