Pontypridd’s Town Centre Regeneration Team has launched an impressive newsletter to keep residents and businesses informed about the £10.5million scheme being undertaken in the town.
Published by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, the eight-page bilingual newsletter is being distributed to 12,000 homes and business premises in the Pontypridd area every six months.
The first edition of the newsletter highlights the excellent news, following extensive lobbying by the Council’s Cabinet Members, of how the Council secured the massive cash injection in the town centre from the Welsh Assembly Government through the European Regional Development Fund and Targeted Match Funding along with Council and private sector contributions.
It also encourages property owners and tenants to take advantage of the Townscape Enhancement Programme whereby they can benefit from a contribution of up to 70% of works to enhance their commercial property.
With a foreword from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Russell Roberts, the newsletter outlines the forthcoming works schedule and how members of the public can contact the Council’s contractors, Costain with any queries or concerns.
The Council is also very much aware of the many other projects ongoing in Pontypridd, and the newsletter provides information on the £50million Sainsbury’s store planned for the Brown Lenox site, the £6million investment by Network Rail and the Welsh Assembly Government into Pontypridd Train Station and the total redevelopment of the Taff Vale Shopping Centre.
Cllr Paul Cannon, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development & Safer Communities explained: “It is essential that residents, businesspeople and indeed visitors are regularly kept informed of the major developments being undertaken in Pontypridd town centre over the coming years.
“By ensuring good communication with the general public, we can make the message loud and clear of the next phases of work and the over-arching regeneration plans for Pontypridd.
“Publishing regular newsletters such as this are an excellent tried and tested approach which helps alleviate any concerns individuals may have on the impact of the work, and also promotes the success which will undoubtedly have a lasting and positive impact on Pontypridd like never before.”
Copies of the newsletter are also available in Rhondda Cynon Taf Libraries, One4All Centres and at the Pontypridd Regeneration Visitors’ Centre on Church Street which is opened to the public every Wednesday from 1pm to 5.30pm.
