South Wales Police is investigating an incident of criminal damage which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning (21st February) at around 3.00am.
The perpetrator gained access to the garden of a property on Phyllis Street, Barry where they set fire to bags within the garden shed, causing the shed to burn down.
The 44-year-old female occupier of the property was evacuated whilst the fire service extinguished the fire.
She did not suffer any serious injury.
Police are linking the criminal damage to another earlier incident where two men were reported to have stolen a petrol can from a vehicle at the end of the street.
The two men police are looking to speak to in connection to the incidents are described as:
Male one: white, mid-twenties, 6ft in height and of heavy build, wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up.
Male two: white, approximately 5ft 10 in height and aged in his late teens, of smaller build than male one and wearing a red tartan jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.
DI Huw Thomas of Barry CID said: “This is a serious incident which could have had fatal consequences.
“Fortunately the occupier of the house was not seriously injured, but there could have been a very different outcome. Extensive damage has been caused and we would ask the public to please call us with any information they have that could assist the investigation.”
