Pupils hold their own ‘council meeting’

Schoolchildren from the Rhondda held their own ‘council meeting’ when they visited the Mayor’s Parlour.

Youngsters from Alaw Primary School, Trealaw, were welcomed by Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd and found out all about the role of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s first citizen.

The pupils, who are members of their school council, held their own council meeting in the chambers, which the Mayor chaired. They were also given a tour of the civic facilities in the Municipal Buildings in Pontypridd and an insight into life as Mayor.

Cllr Lloyd said: “It was good to meet the pupils and staff of Alaw Primary and tell them more about the role of the mayor.

“I was especially pleased to see such young pupils taking an interest and responsibility in what goes on in their school.”
