A catwalk showcase of ethical clothing, the chance to try out equipment that measures the benefits of cycling and a research exhibition are some of the events being offered as part of Cardiff University’s Big Ideas programme.
Supporting National Science and Engineering Week (11-20 March) and Brain Awareness Week (14-20 March), Big Ideas runs throughout the whole of March giving people of all ages the change to get up-close and hands-on with the University’s latest research.
During the month, highlights from the programme include an exhibition showcasing the work in the School of Psychology on child development; the chance to find out about University archaeologists’ most recent discovery – a suburb of monumental buildings on the banks of the River Usk; and a family day in Bute Park where people can learn out about the benefits of cycling and try out measurement equipment.
Pedestrians in Cardiff city centre will also be able to see some of the most striking and unusual images of the brain captured by researchers at the University during March. They’ll be broadcast on the BBC big screen in the Hayes.
Professor Hywel Thomas, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Engagement and International at Cardiff University said: “Big Ideas is all about sharing our knowledge and research. Our aim is to communicate how we are trying to solve some of the world’s big questions, particularly in the areas of health and sustainability. Events are for all ages and represent many different areas of specialist research across the University.”
Most events are free and the programme has been co-ordinated by the University’s Community Engagement Team. More information is available at www.cardiff.ac.uk/bigideas
