Bates: Where is WAG’s commitment to Montgomeryshire?

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member Mick Bates has criticised the Labour-Plaid Government for its dwindling commitment to Montgomeryshire, after discovering figures which show a huge decrease in the number of Welsh Government employees in Montgomeryshire since 2006.

Commenting, Assembly Member Mick Bates stated:

“I have recently obtained figures which show a very worrying decline in the number of Welsh Government employees in offices across Montgomeryshire over recent years.

“The number of jobs has desperately declined from 185 full time equivalent Welsh Government employees in 2007, to just 84 in 2010.  That is a significant decline in just three years.

“These figures raise some serious concerns about the commitment of the Labour-Plaid Welsh Government to the economy of East Mid Wales and to the people of Montgomeryshire.

“I have written to the First Minister for an explanation of this neglect of Welsh Government jobs in Montgomeryshire and I hope that we will see this trend reversed with more investment into our economy here in Mid Wales.”
