From Another Kingdom: Discover the Magic of Mushrooms

From Another Kingdom is the first major exhibition in the UK to focus on the fascinating world of fungi – and it is opening at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday March 19.

This interactive exhibition reveals the intimate details of fungi in a way they have never been shown before, challenging misconceptions and showing how they are vital to the survival of life on earth.

The touring exhibition is in the display area of the Great Glasshouse which has been transformed into a labyrinth of themed spaces where visitors will come face-to-face with fungal diversity, fungal disease and medicine, myths and magic and the role fungi play in eco-systems and recycling.

Highlights include a forest of super-sized toadstools, glow-in-the-dark mushrooms and a version of Russian roulette involving deadly poisonous fungi.

Director of the Garden, Dr Rosie Plummer said: “This fabulous show will really open your eyes to a fascinating and secret world. It has something to interest everyone and I guarantee it will inspire you to think of fungi and their incredible value to us in a totally different way.”

*From Another Kingdom is a touring exhibition from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). It has been brought to Wales with the assistance of the Welsh Assembly Government and the National Science Academy.

*From Another Kingdom was developed by RBGE in partnership with the British Mycological Society and the University of Edinburgh, and funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Scottish Government. It was first shown at the RBGE in 2010.
