Pupils from Cwmbach Juniors have joined the fight against litter this week after a special visit from the Council’s Enforcement Team.
Two groups of children from the school aged from 7-11 years old happily joined the team to help clean up the lane near the school, close to Glan-Reed Street.
During the clean-up the children pulled on their gloves and special yellow coats and set about cleaning up the waste left by thoughtless environmental offenders.
The children collected 10 large bags of rubbish from the small lane, which is often used as a littering ground by passers by. During the pick-up operation, the Council’s Enforcement Team highlighted the issues they face on a daily basis and educated the children on how they can become greener everyday by following simple tips – like recycling at home, keeping their sweet wrappers in their pocket until they find a bin and encouraging their parents and friends to the same.
Councillor Anthony Christopher, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services, said: “How an environment looks can have a significant impact on the quality of life of the people who live within it, especially when this is close to a school and children and parents have to walk past it every day before the school day begins.
“Issues such as vandalism and litter can make an area look uncared for and this can affect how residents feel – no one wants to live in an area that is unattractive and neglected.
“We were so pleased to have the support of the pupils at Cwmbach Juniors, who joined in the fight to keep our County Borough clean and green for future generations.
