Bourne: Glastir report uncertainty

The results of an independent review into WAG’s Glastir scheme – expected last month – may, or may not have been received by the Rural Affairs Minister.

That’s according to the First Minister, who has told Nick Bourne AM, that “if the Rural Affairs Minister has received the report, I will ask her to write to you.”

Controversial land management scheme Glastir has been criticised by the National Farmers Union as “shambolic”.

The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly asked for more information on the report during First Minister’s Questions.

Mr Bourne said: “The First Minister seemed completely unsure as to whether this report even exists.

“He had absolutely no idea if his Plaid Rural Affairs Minister had seen a copy of it.

“We are talking about a flagship WAG scheme that was supposed to help the Welsh farming industry.

“Previously the review recommendations had been expected by the end of February. So yet again we are faced with another promised report that fails to show up on time.

“Labour-Plaid’s allergy to criticism is breath-taking.

“Glastir is a farce. We were told it would fund 10,000 projects – instead it received only 3,000 applications.

“We should all be allowed to see this report and analyse its findings as promised – as soon as possible.”
