Two parents and their two young children had a lucky escape when their newly acquired speedboat started to sink shortly after launching from Goodwick public slipway on Saturday afternoon, 12th March.
They were towards the end of the eastern breakwater in Fishguard Bay when an ex-RNLI crew member saw they were sinking and called the Coastguard who in turn requested the Fishguard RNLI in-shore lifeboat to launch at approximately 3.30pm.
The lifeboat with three crew was quickly on scene to find the children cold and frightened. They and their parents were transferred to the lifeboat and taken back to the safety of the shore at Goodwick.
The lifeboat then returned to the drifting speedboat and secured it to a mooring before returning to station at 4.30pm.
Fortunately, due to the nature of the tides that day, the speedboat did not sink outright and was recovered the following day.
