New play equipment for Abergavenny’s Bailey Park

Monmouthshire County Council’s Chairman, Councillor Peter Clarke, will officially open the new play area at Abergavenny’s Bailey Park at 1.30pm on Wednesday, 23rd March.  The eagerly awaited facilities will replace old play equipment which was outdated and becoming a health and safety hazard.  The safety surfacing, in place since the early 1990’s, was also badly deteriorating and will be renewed.

Pupils from the town’s Our Lady and St Michael’s Catholic Primary School will road test the new equipment and the Friends of Bailey Park who have supported the refurbishment will also be in attendance.

The council’s cabinet member for Culture and Environment, Giles Howard said: “The old play equipment was no longer fit for purpose and we have waited a long time for the replacement which has been worth the delay.  It has improved the park and I am sure that it will be well used for many years to come.  Hopefully this will mark a turnaround in the fortunes of the park and we must also thank the Friends group and town council for their continued support.”
