Cardiff Council is continuing its efforts to encourage businesses in the city to recycle their waste.
A roadshow is being held on Queen Street in the city centre, between 10am and 4pm on Thursday March 31. Information and advice will be on offer to anyone who wants to find out from the council how their business can become more sustainable.
Food waste and recycling collections are available to all businesses in Cardiff. This service is cheaper than general waste collection and is also more environmentally friendly, as it does not send waste to landfill.
The Council is keen to make companies aware of the benefits of using the service, and is highlighting the economic advantages of separating and recycling commercial waste.
From April 2011, landfill tax will increase by £8 per tonne and will continue to rise each year until at least 2014. However, recycling and composting waste is not affected by these incremental tax rises and so using the recycling services the council offers can benefit businesses.
Executive Member for Environment, Cllr Margaret Jones, said: “The roadshow is about giving businesses a chance to pop along and get free advice and information about a service that not only has a positive impact on the environment, but could also save them money. We are committed to continuing to improve our recycling performance in Cardiff, and local businesses are integral to making that happen.”
