Welsh professional racing cyclist and Olympic gold medallist Geraint Thomas MBE will be helping to train Matthew Pritchard of MTV Dirty Sanchez (pictured) fame in preparation for the cycling part of his Iron Man Challenge in Bolton later this year.
Geraint will be giving lots of advice and encouragement to Mathew and his team of four.
The 112 mile bike race would be a “ride in the park” for Geraint after his success in the 2010 Tour de France when he came fifth in the prologue and second on stage three in the most famous bike race in the world.
Pritch and his team mates welcomed the additional member who will be helping the lads train for event and no doubt spur them on during the strenuous challenge which also includes a 2.4 mile swim and a marathon.
Geraint said “I am delighted to be able to help the guys with their training. It is for a very worthy cause and I am looking forward to getting them in shape!”
Pritch commented “I feel very privileged and grateful to have Geraint’s support and experience in helping me with the cycling part of my ironman challenge. Considering it’s the main part of the challenge it will help a great deal.”
Owain Cassidy from Tŷ Hafan, the charity set to benefit from the team’s efforts said:
“We are delighted that Pritch and lads have chosen to help the life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales. Big thanks to Geraint for getting involved and helping the guys get in shape. We wish them well in their training and will definitely be cheering for them on the day.”
