Caerphilly county borough council has received numerous calls from local people asking for more information about plans to build a new waste transfer facility near Llanbradach.
A number of residents have been asking questions about the waste management processes that will take place at the site following the publication of an article in ‘Newsline’ – the council’s residents newsletter.
The site will deal with waste material (both recyclable material and general refuse) which would be sorted and separated, then transferred to bulk haulage vehicles for transportation to appropriate recycling or waste treatment facilities outside the area.
Some people interpreted the Newsline article to read that recyclable material and general household waste would be bulked together. The council is keen to stress that this would not be the case and recyclable material would be kept separate from general waste as they are both sent to different end processes.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, CCBC cabinet member for the environment said, “We are more than happy to clarify the situation as some people were questioning why they should separate recyclable materials at home if they were then going to be mixed together at the new facility. Of course this is not the case and we would like to apologise for any confusion that the article has caused.”
“We would like to thank all our residents for their ongoing support of our recycling initiatives,” she added.
The proposed waste transfer facility will be constructed on a brownfield site below the former Trehir landfill, where the council’s civic amenity site is currently located. It is anticipated that the facility will become operational over the next few years.
