Of all the colourful and powerful characters who have been part of Cardiff Castle’s history, who has had the most influence?
Visitors to Cardiff Castle on Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd April will be invited to take their place on the judging panel – X factor style – and hear the characters from the past make their case. From the humble to the high ranking, they will all be here, prepared to perform, eager to impress, ready to rubbish the opposition and determined to win the competition. Expect some heated debates, extravagant claims, outrageous behaviour, underhand tactics and a dance-off!
Will it be the ARP warden who saved the citizens of Cardiff and the Castle from destruction during World War II? Or will it be Victorian genius-architect William Burges who transformed the Castle into a Welsh Victorian Camelot; a gothic masterpiece with fairytale towers and amazingly lavish decoration? It might be the illegitimate grandson of William the Conqueror, Robert the Consul, who established his court and built the Norman Keep which dominates the site to this day. Even Henry VIII will be here to make his mark. Few people realise he actually owned Cardiff Castle during his turbulent Tudor reign.
Throughout the day, the X-factor ancestors will be roaming the grounds, doing their utmost to influence, persuade and even bribe the decision-makers! It promises to be a day full of surprises, the outcome unknown, a difficult choice, but of course the judges’ decision will be final. Come along, join in the fun and enjoy the power of the panel! Remember, this event is FREE if you are a resident of Cardiff or work in Cardiff and have a Cardiff Castle Key. More details on how to get your Key to the Castle can be found on www.cardiffcastle.com
