Children who attend breakfast clubs across Rhondda Cynon Taf can get creative and design their own cereal box – and win prizes for their schools.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Catering Services has launched a competition, inviting children to design a new cereal box, including a new name, a colourful character and list of three possible healthy ingredients.
Prizes include school play equipment, and Kellogg’s are also donating £100 to the winning school.
More than 80 breakfast clubs have been set up in schools by Rhondda Cynon Taf Catering Services across the county borough with the help of funding from the Welsh Assembly Government. Children can enjoy supervised activities and a healthy breakfast between 8 and 9am, before starting their day in school.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Eudine Hanagan, who went along to meet young breakfast club members at the competition launch in Hirwaun Primary School, said: “Breakfast really is the most important part of the day, so I am delighted that our clubs across Rhondda Cynon Taf have become so popular with primary pupils. I hope that many children will take up the challenge of creating their own cereal!”
Schools who do not currently have a breakfast club but would like to set one up should please contact Bev Griffiths in Catering Services on 01443 744151
