Commenting on the report published today by the Rarer Cancers Foundation, which found that Welsh patients are being denied life-extending cancer treatments which would be made available to them elsewhere in the UK, Nick Ramsay, Welsh Conservative candidate for Monmouth, said:
“This is further evidence that Welsh patients are being denied treatments and medicines readily available to NHS patients in England and Scotland.
“At a time when patients and their families are facing distressing news about their treatments, they do not want to have to fight for access to the medicines they need.
“To tackle this postcode lottery, Welsh Conservatives would establish a £10million Cancer Drugs Fund to make available new medicines, which have not been signed off by NICE due to cost.
“A Cancer Drugs Fund would bring Wales into line with the rest of the UK and ensure that Welsh patients are not disadvantaged.”
