Youngsters from Cardiff schools have danced themselves to the finals of the Welsh Youth Service Street Dance Competition.
Last month over 130 dancers came together to compete in the fourth annual Street Dance Competition held in partnership by the Sport.Cardiff and Cardiff Youth Service.
The event was held at The Coal Exchange and saw more than 15 schools and youth centres from across Cardiff enter.
A diverse range of Street Dance styles were showcased including Popping, Locking, Waaking and House.
The finalists who will represent South Wales have been selected from St Illtyd’s High School, Corpus Christi High School, Willows High School and Fitzalan Youth Centre.
They will travel to Newtown, Powys on Sunday, April 10 to compete in several categories including Solos, Duos and Teams in both junior and inter age groups.
The Sport Cardiff 5×60 project aims to make young people in Cardiff more active by taking part in 60 minutes of exercise five times a week.
It comprises a variety of different activities from which the children choose what they want to participate in. Activities include competitive, team and individual sports as well recreational activities such as climbing, dance and swimming.
Cardiff Youth Service works with young people to develop interesting, challenging and creative opportunities and experiences and help young people fulfill their unique potential.
Executive Member for Communities, Housing and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman said: “The 5×60 project has been hugely successful. It encourages school children to have fit and active lifestyles whilst also making sports activities available to young people in our local communities.
“The talent showcased at the Street Dance Competition was outstanding and demonstrates the passion that the youngsters have developed through the programme.
“I wish each of them the best of luck for success at the finals.”
