Wood Panels Depict a Special Cardiff Story

The finalist entries to the Bute Park “People’s Door” competition will be displayed in a special public exhibition at the new Cardiff Story Museum.

From Thursday, April 14 the final 12 panels will be on display to members of the public who will be able to register their favourite.

The competition was run by the Bute Park restoration team and open to people with professional or amateur wood carving skills.

It gave entrants the opportunity to immortalise their work by designing and carving a wood panel to depict the park’s history and natural environment.

The panels will feature on a large oak square panelled door designed by Cardiff-born architect Michael Davies, which will be the entrance for the new Bute Park Education and Training Centre.

The winning eight designs will be selected by a small judging panel who will take the public’s view into account during their decision making process.

The new Education and Training Centre is due to open at the end of the summer and will be situated in the centre of the park.

Positioned discreetly behind a new garden wall along the southern boundary of the horticultural nursery complex, the new building will play on the concept of a secret garden and will become the hub for educational activities in the park.

The Wood Panels are being displayed as part of the BigLittleCity Cardiff exhibition which celebrates the people, places and talents that make Cardiff special.

Works on display are from both established and emerging artists as well as interactive projects which are open to all.
